Born into a long line of priests, Prajwal started his training at age eight, receiving formal instruction mainly from his father and began publicly performing the dance at age twelve. With the survival of this rare meditative form threatened by modernization, Prajwal, at his father's behest, has devoted his life to bringing this ancient tradition to the world, while adhering to its original purpose as a profound spiritual practice. In 1996 he founded Dance Mandal in Kathmandu for the preservation and expansion of Charya Nritya and the related traditions of music and making of costumes and masks. It is now possible not only to observe this sacred art, rich with symbolism and meaningful gestures, but also to learn this unique form of dynamic meditation. In recent years Prajwal moved from Nepal to the United States, settling in Oregon. At Dance Mandal in Portland he offers education in his tradition of sacred dance and music through classes and performances, in order to enrich other's cultural and religious world view and also as a vehicle for bodily and spiritual transformation. Prajwal is joined in Seattle by his students from Dance Mandal, Helen Appell and Brenda Harris.
